The Third Grade Class

Story image 1_0

The third grade class at Happy Elementary is the largest class in school.  The third graders like to do science.  We do a bunch of stuff about the earth.  Today we learned how the earth orbits around the sun and the moon does not.  We made a model of the sun, Earth, and the moon.

Some of the third grade students like math.  We do a BUNCH of math.  We do fractions, shapes, multiplication, and subtraction.  All of our problems are word problems and we now multiply two digit by one digit numbers.  We are competing in the Principal’s Challenge.  Everyone has to reach a fact fluency goal to meet the challenge.  My goal is to get forty addition and subtraction facts correct in one minute.  I love multiplying two digit by one digit numbers.  That is something we did not do in second grade.  In second grade, we only did subtraction and addition.  We did centers in second grade, too.

The third grade class is loud.  We have 25 students, 15 boys and 10 girls.  We are very active, we like recess and usually play wall ball.  We peg hard but we are really tough.

The scariest thing about third grade is when we have to tell all the shapes apart on a test.  We not only learn flat shapes, called polygons, we also learn three dimensional shapes made from polygons.  We also learned about lines and angles.  The best part of third grade is when we get to play math games.
