Teaching My Class

Because I am very good at reading and understanding nonfiction text, Mrs. Downing asked me to teach the skill to my classmates.  To prepare to teach third graders, I read the text prior to the class and answered the questions to make sure I understood what other students would be expected to do.  I had to prepare my lesson at home after school hours.

I prepared a scavenger hunt with nonfiction clues about our Solar System.  Students had to read the clues that were taped to the walls in the classroom and in the hallway.  Once they read the clue, they had to tell me what the answer was so I could check the answer.  If they answered correctly, the students moved to the next clue.  If they answered incorrectly, they had to try again.  Students had to get the right answer to earn the Scavenger clue.  The scavenger hunt was fun and the prize was knowing you did a great job.

I learned from the experience that I like teaching and that you have to know what you are doing to be a good teacher.  Almost everyone did what I asked.  I had to ask one student to pay attention and to stop messing with things, just like my teacher does every day.

When I grow up, I want to be a Mechanical Engineer.  I plan to attend Texas A&M to earn my Engineering degree.  Even though I do not plan to be a teacher, I hope to have the opportunity to teach again.  I am very good at comparing fractions, maybe I will get to teach that skill, too.
