Happy Elementary School students had the opportunity to try out for parts in the Drama production of “Cinderella and the Emperor’s New Clothes”.  The play is an adaptation of two plays by Blanche Marvin.  The plot follows the traditional story line of Cinderella and then becomes intertwined with a king who believes looking good is more important than serving others.  In the end, we all learn the valuable lesson that love and kindness are beautiful and do not have to accompanied by the finest clothing in all the land.

We invite everyone to attend our performance of “Cinderella and the Emperor’s New Clothes” on Saturday, November 7, 7:00 PM at the Happy Elementary School Auditorium.  There will be no charge for the performance.

The cast is made up of students in 2nd – 6th grade and the play is directed by Dayna McMillan, Tina McNeill, and Toni Waldo.  The misguided King is Kason Sperry.  He is a third grader who loves hearing everyone laugh when he enters in his underwear.  Berkeley Cleavinger, 2nd grader, plays Lady Deidre, a true-hearted lady who works with the Fairy Godmother to change the kingdom with love.  She thinks it is cool to have a Fairy Godmother as a good friend.  Lady Caroline is a beautiful Lady of the Court played by Arianna Perez, second grader.  Arianna said she did not know that being in a play would take such a lot of work.

The play is narrated by Cricket, the court jester, played by Kirsten Simons, third grader. She gives the audience insight into the events occurring in the kingdom.  Lord Gray is the official who advocates for the army.  Lord Gray is played by a 4th grader, Alex Stevens.  Alex enjoys dressing up and pretending to be someone else.  He learned to get deep and loud.  The Prince who falls in love with Cinderella is good and honest and is determined to save the kingdom.  Camden Sperry, 5th grader, plays the prince.  He said that it takes more than reading your lines to learn your part.

Cinderella serves her stepfamily and the kingdom.  She is honorable and beautiful.  Emily Berry, 6th grader, enjoys dressing up and having fun with friends.  She said it is kind of hard to do the play and keep up with lots of other activities.  Sydni Middleton, 6th grader, is the wicked stepmother who tries to get the Prince to notice her daughters.  She enjoys memorizing lines and being on stage.  She learned that it can be hard to be on stage and speak in front of people.  Angela and Minerva are the ugly stepsisters, played by the beautiful Halee Johnson, 5th grader, and Hannah Drake, 6th grader.  Hannah loves being bad and having an attitude while Halee stated she likes being snotty.

Caleb Stevens is the tailor who weaves the imaginary cloth for the King’s clothes.  This 5th grader said it is crazy to weave cloth that is not even there.  Celia Middleton, 2nd grade, is the beautiful Fairy Godmother.  She loves to wave her wand and has learned to be loud and clear.

Karsen Collier, 3rd grader, and Gus Fields, 6th grader, are the stage hands and crew.  Karsen said working on a play is a lot of fun and he has learned that you have to pay attention to change the set and work the curtain.  Gus thinks the play is funny and learned that the crew cannot just sit around, there is something to do all of the time.

The final production of “Cinderella and the Emperor’s New Clothes will be November 7, at 7:00 PM at the Happy Elementary Auditorium.  We hope many of you attend!
