Ten Kindergarten students met the Principal’s Reading Challenge at Happy Elementary.  Because of their success, they enjoyed a lunch date with Mrs. Venhaus, a school volunteer.  Mrs. Waldo, Happy Elementary Principal, and the students, took pizza and books.  They enjoyed a delicious meal and read books to Mrs. Venhaus.  She was very pleased with the books the students selected and shared.

The students who met the challenge are Lynnlea Johnson, Zaida Cisneros, J.P. Baggerman, Janie Kimbrough, Kayla Gomez, Charlie Smith, Kylee Peters, Jessica Vasquez, Izabela Ramirez, and Luke Dempsey.

Kindergarten students are expected to know 100 sight words, identify initial and final sounds, how to make rhyming words and how to blend, add and delete sounds.  All students enter First Grade as readers and grow and progress, striving for personal improvement.
