Happy Schools Ranked Among Best in Texas by Children at Risk

The Children at Risk organization ranked Happy ISD 14th among 953 school districts in the state of Texas for 2014.  Children at Risk is a nonprofit organization which aims to improve the quality of life for children across Texas through strategic research, public policy analysis, education, collaboration and advocacy.  The annual ranking of school districts is based on student achievement, campus performance, and growth.

“I am very proud of this high ranking from the Children at Risk organization,” said Happy ISD Superintendent, Wade Wesley, “we are excited to know that our school is ranked the highest in the Region 16 area and among the best in Texas. Our success is a result of high expectations from the community, parents, staff, and students to implement rigorous academic standards and to build student success.  It is an honor to be recognized for the work that our students and staff have achieved.”

The Houston-based advocacy group evaluated schools on a variety of indicators including performance on state standardized assessments, participation and performance in advanced coursework, participation and performance on college entrance exams, graduation rates, and percent of economically-disadvantaged students.  Happy ISD earned not only the rank of 14th, but the letter grade “A” based on an A-F scale.

The data used in the Children at Risk School Rankings report was obtained from the Texas Education Agency and is reported for the most recent year available.  The Children at Risk report can be found by visiting www.childrenatrisk.org.
